I'll be brief  and almost telegraphic, because I have many things to say and little time.

1. Let's have a look at the landscape at the end of the year 2010. The Obama hope has dissolved, and the European crisis has broken out. A new Logic has been installed at the heart of the European life, since the financial crisis of Greece: Angela Merkel, Nicholas Sarkozy and Jean-Claude Trichet resolved that European society has to sacrifice its current levels of life, public school system, its civility, in order to pay the debts accumulated by the financial elite.

Quasi telegrafico. Molte cose da dire poco tempo.

1. Uno sguardo al panorama alla fine del primo decennio. La speranza Obama si dissolve, e scoppia la crisi europea. Una nuova logica si istalla al cuore della vita europea, a partire dalla crisi finanziaria greca: Merkel Sarkozy e Trichet hanno deciso che la società europea deve sacrificare il suo attuale livello di vita, il sistema della scuola pubblica, la sua civiltà, per poter pagare i debiti accumulati dall’elite finanziaria.

Ce qui est en train de se passer à Rome et dans beaucoup d’autres villes italiennes, ce qui s’est passé à Londres jeudi dernier pendant qu’un Parlement de traîtres votait pour la destruction de l’école publique, est le début d’une décennie nouvelle.

Ce sera une décennie de conflits et d’autodéfense de la part de la société, contre une classe dominante violente, corrompue, meurtrière, contre le capitalisme financier qui littéralement affame la société, contre la mafia qui occupe les places du pouvoir pour se partager les ressources produites par le travail.

This question, appearing on most newspapers after every riot, such as the one in Rome on December 14, deserves an answer. Do you want to see what our faces look like, when they are not hidden by scarves, helmets and balaclavas?

They are the same faces that pay the rent for your scruffy flats, the faces to whom you offer unpaid internships or full time employment for £800 a month. They are the faces that pay thousands of pounds to attend your lectures. They are the faces of the kids that you slap when you catch them with some weed in their pocket. They are the faces that have to run out of the bus when the inspectors appear, as they couldn’t afford to travel otherwise.

L’Italia vista da Londra sta cambiando colore. Niente più spiagge dorate, piatti di pasta fumanti e donne generosamente svestite. Gli occhi delle nuove generazioni inglesi vedono il fumo delle camionette bruciate alzarsi sulla penisola e di colpo sembrano accorgersi di quanto fosse rimasto finora nascosto dalla luce accecante del sole del mediterraneo.

Sono soprattutto gli studenti, in marcia per le strade di Londra o asserragliati in dozzine di universita’ occupate, che oggi rivolgono lo sguardo verso l’Italia in cerca di un’ispirazione che non sia più quella stantia dei classici.
