Yasuo Akai was born in Osaka, Japan in 1968.
After taking his BA in composition in 1993 at Kyoto City University of Arts, he trained modern/contemporary dance technique. In 1999 he danced for Jean-Claude Gallotta at Shizuoka Performing Arts Center. During 2001-2006 travelling around Europe and staying in Zagereb, Frankfurt am Main, and Brussels, as a composer/performer he worked with choreographers such as Thomas Plischke, Kattrin Deufert, Pirkko Husemann, and Alice Chauchat, as well as participating in some residency programs in Belgium, created his own performance pieces. He currently lives in Tokyo, and works as a composer, as well as a Japanese-English translator. |
