Calogero was born in Sicily in 1982, moved to Bologna in 2000- where he first found his passion for the subject of Cultural Studies and critical theory, and then settled in London since 2005.
He has recently started to conduct research on individuals who claim asylum in the UK on the grounds of fear of persecution in their countries because of their sexual orientation. Calo is interested in developing a critical ethnographic analysis of the nexus between sexuality and migratory processes. Important areas of his research interest and writings include: the formation of homonormative discourses within queer politics in Western liberal democracies, the instrumentalisation of sexual minorities that reinforces the divide between "queers of the West" and "queers of the Global South", queers and Islam and sexual citizenship discourse. |
